Bio

Born November 9th 1964 in Hawksbury, Ontario, Rick L. Blues was raised in Très Saint Rédempteur near Montreal. From his father, a farmer, he learns perseverance and from his mother, a seamstress, the love of a labour well done. With an obvious passion for music, like his seven brothers and sisters, Rick sings, at a very young age, with his sister Suzanne on the porch of the family home.

With a natural gift for imitation, he entertains his family and classmates with songs ranging from Elvis to The Beatles. At eight, he learns piano, guitar and flute. At fifteen formed his first band where he sang, played drums and wrote his first songs. Multi-instrumentalist, he tinkers with the saxophone then discovers his fondness for the harmonica.

It was at this moment that he also discovers his passion for jazz where he listened to Joe Pass, Charlie Parker, Ella Fitzgerald, Thelonious Monk, and blues with Muddy Waters, Ray Charles, B.B. King, Little Walter and many others.

After many years of playing cover material, Rick puts together his first blues band in the 1980's. "B.L. Blues" starts out as a duo with Henri Breton, but quickly becomes a trio, then a quartet. Wanting to fend for himself, Rick becomes Rick L. Blues, today's solo artist we have grown to know and love.

He has evolved with the leading blues artists of Quebec, France and the U.S. Rick L. Blues has also shared the stage with many prestigious names in music like Vic Vogel, Guy Nadon, Jean-Jacques Milteau, Garou, France D'amour, Normand Brathwaite, Nanette Workman, Marjo, Annie Villeneuve and many others. Rick has performed at the most important festivals, like the Montreal International Jazz Festival and the Blues-Sur-Seine in France. Rick L. Blues writes film scores and records at his own "2nd Avenue Studio" on his own label: "Crystal Blues Records".

Rick L. Blues is a creator of ambiance. The secret of his success is a mix of tradition and personal touch, either in the genre's classics or in his songwriting. We can find his love for tradition, from his wardrobe on stage to the respect of his audience and his musical roots.

Rick L. Blues is an inveterate artist who manages no effort to offer a show of international calibre.
